Dorothy (Dotty) Humbert
1940 - 2024

[Remember their life](https://www.after.com/obituaries/dorothy-humbert#memories)

The story of
Dorothy (Dotty) Humbert died of natural causes on Saturday, March 30, peacefully in Arvada, Colorado.
Dotty was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ron Humbert and her cherished grandson Ben and is the loving mother of Dan (Duffy), Rena (Ty), Melissa (Don), and Gretchen (Don) Guerra; adored grandmother of Hallie, Max (Liz), Maddie Beatty, and Ty, Grace, and Breck Guerra; and precious great-grandmother of Ryan and Natalie.
She was born in Elmhurst, Illinois, on January 5, 1940, to Harry and Dorothy Magee. She was their second child, and quickly nicknamed Cookie by her older brother Pat due to her deep brown eyes.
Dotty married the love of her life, Ron, on October 20, 1962. They enjoyed a full life together until Ron’s passing in 2005. Dotty, always up to trying something new, embraced Ron’s love of geology and herpetology, which was evident from an early date in which he convinced her to go canoeing for the first time to catch turtles. Over the years, Dotty became a master canoeist – maneuvering against the current on rivers across the country, day or night, to go back and catch the turtle that Ron saw out of the corner of his eye 50 yards back.
Her greatest joy came from supporting others, starting with raising her four children and being involved in their activities – be it school, scouts, sports, or any other interest they showed, and encouraging her husband’s love of camping, canoeing, reptile/amphibian collecting, clubs, and travel. Once she had grandchildren, she continued to attend games and events to cheer them on, whether that was in the Chicagoland area, California, or Colorado. Everything she did, she did with complete commitment.
Another joy for Dotty came from her talent for sewing, crocheting, needlepointing, quilting, and knitting. Over the decades, she beautifully created shirts with needlepoint animals on the back for Ron, Dan, and Rena; matching outfits for Missy and Gretchen; Halloween costumes and Christmas decorations; ponchos, scarfs, and hats; baby blankets and comforters; and many other items to give to family and friends. She would plan what she was making, and for whom, long in advance, picking out just the right color and material that she knew they’d love the most. Her face would light up as they unwrapped her package. One never knew if it was the lucky recipient or Dotty who enjoyed it more.
Ron and Dotty purchased land in Michigan in the 1980s, camping until they built their dream home overlooking Cleveland Creek in 1998. Early on, they identified an area on the property and named it Homesite Hill. Whether camping or hosting once the house, CasaRonDota, was finished, Dotty welcomed all who came to visit.
She moved to Colorado in 2011, throwing herself into volunteering at St. Anthony’s Hospital from 2012 to 2020 and becoming embedded in the Golden and Arvada communities.
Dotty spent her final years living at MorningStar Senior Living of Arvada, where she was known for always having a smile on her face and happily engaging in banter with the other residents.
It was Dotty and Ron’s wish to be cremated and have their ashes scattered in a few of the most special places they’d traveled to and dearly loved. A celebration of life will be held in her honor at a later date.

Dotty was a great wife and mother who raised her family also with us in Lombard, Il. For thirty plus years. Her daughters and ours were best friends.
Dotty and Ron were great parents and neighbors and good friends. May they both rest in peace. Amen 🙏✝️

I knew Ron & Dotty from the Chicago Herpetological Society. They were absolutely the best people. Always caring about others. Kept in touch with Dotty a bit through Facebook over the years.
